Here's everything you need to know to plan a perfect trip.
RESONATE 2027
Cape Town consistently ranks in the top five most beautiful places on the planet. Table Mountain towers above the harbour. Beaches on three sides. Vineyards a short drive out of the city. Some of the top-rated restaurants in the world. February is peak summer, with warm days, long evenings, and the city is alive.
Come for the festival, and stay for everything else. This guide is written by people who know Cape Town well and want you to fall in love with it too.
Getting Here
Cape Town International Airport is South Africa's most scenic arrival — Table Mountain greets you through the window as you land. Here's what to know when you arrive.
Where to Stay
The festival venue is in the City Centre, but Cape Town's most desirable places to stay span the Atlantic Seaboard and the historic city neighbourhoods. In general, hotel and guest house accommodation in South Africa is of a high standard and is good value for money.
Surrounded by Table Mountain, Signal Hill, and Devil's Peak. The Homecoming Centre is located here. Walking to the venue is possible from most hotels during the day, and the restaurants on Bree Street and Kloof Street are on your doorstep.
Orange St, Gardens
Across from the Labia Theatre, close to Kloof Street restaurants, and right behind the museum precinct and the Company's Garden.
126 Buitengracht St, Bo-Kaap
A mid-range option in a colourful neighbourhood right next to Bree Street's vibrant restaurant and bar strip.
23 Buitengracht St, City Centre
Great location, with Bree Street's bars and restaurants right at your doorstep, and more affordable than other city centre hotels.
101 St. George's Mall
A decent option in the heart of the city's business district, within walking distance of the Company's Garden and the Parliament of South Africa.
64 New Church St, City Centre
Right behind Kloof Street and all of its restaurants and bars.
90 Bree St, City Centre
A beautiful boutique hotel on Heritage Square, set in an 18th-century building.
76 Orange Street, Gardens
Cape Town's most beloved grand hotel — open since 1899, set in lush gardens just off Kloof Street. Famous afternoon tea, exquisite cuisine, and a timeless sense of heritage and glamour.
Signal Hill slopes, Bo-Kaap
A mini-village of rooms, suites, studios, and cottages in beautiful gardens and courtyards above Bo-Kaap — with magnificent city views.
The City Centre has lots of backpacker options. Here are some of the more popular ones: Ashanti Lodge Gardens, Never @ Home – Kloof Street, and Villa Viva. And other discount hotels nearby: Hollow on the Square, Cape Town Lodge, and Cape Town Hollow. Just a note: unless you want to be living inside the big party, we'd avoid accommodation options on Long Street.
A strip on the Atlantic Seaboard with a promenade filled with walkers and runners. Lively cafes, vibey restaurants and bars, and a beachfront vibe. Sea Point has more Airbnbs than hotels, but it's safe to walk around and right on the sea — a top pick for many visitors. Bantry Bay, just beyond Sea Point, is quieter and more exclusive. An Uber to the Homecoming Centre takes about 15–20 minutes.
Bantry Bay, Sea Point
A large, well-positioned hotel in Bantry Bay with beautiful ocean views. Right near the sea, with a great pool. Can be expensive, but you can often get great deals on Expedia and other travel sites.
Arthur's Road, Sea Point
A reliable Marriott-branded hotel near the ocean. Great value for a well-known brand in one of Cape Town's most desirable neighbourhoods, and a great coffee shop right across the street (Arthur's Mini Super).
Mouille Point
A small 24-room hotel between the Green Point Urban Park and the seafront promenade, with a popular restaurant downstairs. Generally good value for money.
Backpackers in the neighbourhood: Mojo Hotel, Fools Inn, Sunflower Stop Backpackers Hostel, and The Big Luxury Backpackers. And some other more affordable options: Tropicana Hotel and The Bantry Aparthotel.
Perhaps Cape Town's most touristy neighbourhood, the V&A Waterfront has a working harbour, a great selection of restaurants, the Two Oceans Aquarium, and a large shopping mall. The Silo District next-door is home to the Zeitz MOCAA, Africa's largest contemporary art museum. An Uber to the Homecoming Centre is about 10–15 minutes.
6 Silo Square, V&A Waterfront
Located opposite the Zeitz MOCAA and walkable to all Waterfront attractions. Rooftop bar with Table Mountain views, spacious modern rooms, and a great breakfast.
Portswood Rd, V&A Waterfront
In a very touristy neighbourhood with overpriced hotels, this is a mid-range option.
V&A Waterfront
A former prison (no lie!), now part of the Marriott chain, right near all of the Waterfront's attractions.
Beyond the hotels listed here, Cape Town has a huge range of guesthouses, self-catering apartments, Airbnbs, and private rentals, especially along the Atlantic Seaboard. February is peak season — the earlier you book, the better. Good neighbourhoods to search: Sea Point, Green Point, De Waterkant, Tamboerskloof, Gardens, Oranjezicht, Camps Bay, and the City Bowl.
